Coronavirus

“It will go away”

What should you do about the coronavirus?

Nothing, according to Trump.

Trump spoke to reporters at the White House this afternoon where he said everyone should go about their usual business because the virus will just "go away" soon.

President Trump is urging Americans to remain calm in the face of fear about the spread of coronavirus in the U.S. "It will go away, just stay calm," Mr. Trump said of the coronavirus Tuesday. He added, "Be calm. It's really working out. And a lot of good things are going to happen."

A "lot of good things are going to happen," Trump said, as the number of identified cases and deaths continued to climb.

Look, I don't think anyone should light their hair on fire and stockpile a full year's supply of toilet paper like a doomsday prepper, but each time Trump says something like this he makes it more likely that the virus will spread further than it otherwise would have.

Trump is telling his supporters there's nothing to worry about and making it more likely they will ignore the advice of public officials. Moreover, Trump is also sending a signal to his own cabinet and appointed officials that they should downplay the impact of the virus because they wouldn't want to contradict Dear Leader's narrative, would they?

In related news, Trump's meeting with congressional Republicans reportedly resulted in a call for passing a payroll tax cut that will only last until the November election.

That's convenient, isn't it?
