Agreed.

I worry more about the impact clownshoes like Bachmann, Palin, and O’Donnell are having on women in politics. There are tons of smart, capable women out there who would make excellent candidates for either party. Yet it’s the circus acts that get all the attention. It’s like these dimbulbs are being put out as part of conspiracy to make female candidates look silly and not taken seriously.

But on this other bit, I really wish the Republicans would take their party back. I keep having this reoccurring daydream. The real republicans gave the keys to their beach house to their teenage son. Any day now the adults are going to be shocked when they find the place trashed.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve veered more to the left. And I absolutely agree with you that for a democracy to work for us, we need 1-2 more viable political parties. The current GOP has abandoned their responsibility in the arrangement, IMO.

What really disgusts me as a woman with both Palin and Bachmann is they know they’re good looking and they use it. But not in a healthy way, in a manipulative way and that makes me ill. Who is more attractive….the woman who knows it and flaunts it or the woman who doesn’t know it but it just shines out? And worse, is how the typical male will not acknowledge it’s influence. A lot of wingnuts and teatards will insist that they love Palin for her ideas but you know damn well it isn’t her “ideas” they’re in love with. At least some of them are honest enough to say it’s because she pretty. When I was young and seriously hot (hey don’t mock, I have pics to prove it), I never thought I was pretty and I didn’t notice how it helped me. Now that I am older and not near as attractive, I can definitely tell the difference in how people, particularly men, treat me in both my personal and professional life. But in neither situation, did I ever purposely use my looks to manipulate others to get what I wanted.

BTW, same thing goes for male Presidential Candidates. Ever since the Kennedy/Nixon televised debates, the way a presidential candidate looks has become ever more important. They have to be more attractive to the widest cross section of the population, they have to be taller, etc. Look at all the nonsense of the people who loved Pres O who couldn’t stop talking about how handsome he was. I personally could less. And if hear or read one more article about Gov. Perry’s hair, I think I’ll vomit.

Americans needs to remember “beautiful is, as beautiful does” or as Tolkien once put it evil often “looks fairer but feels fouler” and the good “can look foul but feel fair”.

Excuse me but this is absolutely true about the sex appeal aspect. Michele Bachmann carries herself very well. Unlike Sarah Palin who comes across as a sexless, ambitious, career oriented woman. The problem of course is that they are both airheads. With Bachmann being a little more on the ball as she was able to pass the bar exam. But Bachmann is still very easily influenced by very smart con artists on the right and she isn’t a student of history which the president needs to be.
