Oversight Chairman Suddenly Loses Interest in “Fishing Trips”

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz continues to insist he will investigate despot-elect Donald Trump's conflicts of interest after he's sworn into office, but for the time being Chaffetz has given up long, relaxing fishing trips on the open waters of Benghazi.

Trump’s feet will be held to the fire should his business interests become a problem, Chaffetz promised. But he also argued Democrats are going overboard by flogging an issue that remains hypothetical.

“It is a little ridiculous to send me six letters before he’s even been sworn in to go on, essentially, fishing trips,” he said. “That’s not what we do.

Dude. Bro. My man, I have news for you: the GOP has been on a fishing trip for the past six years. They didn't return to port even once.

Not only is it what they do, it's all they do.

As you know, Chaffetz gleefully pledged to spend "years" investigating Hillary Clinton as president before the election even took place. I can only imagine his grave disappointment that he'll have to find something else to do with his time without a Clinton to kick around.

Why does he need to do anything? I mean, after all, a good majority of the Repugs have spent the last 8 years refusing to do their jobs and legislate anything while collecting some pretty hearty paychecks for doing nothing…so he would fit right in doing nothing.

Is it not possible to put him on Trial?

    • Who Chaffetz or Trump?

      • Qahir Makhani

Both. Remember that they work for you. In fact, any city in which Trump has property should demand payment from congress.

        • I would think if they could be sued they would already have been…but I’m not a lawyer. Any lawyers out there?

          • Qahir Makhani

Or given how gutless the current administration is and how they only care about playing nice with Rethuglicans and being pure, you wouldn’t be allowed to know?
Contact Bob Cesca as I’m no longer in America.
If an American lawyer doesn’t take it on, get the UN and ICC involved. These are legitimate human rights abuses.

I know I’ve said this before about many people, but what a waste of carbon.

Thank you, UT-3, for repeatedly electing this embarrassing creature.

without a Clinton to kick around.

    Says who?

He’ll keep f***ing that chicken for at least another year.

    • ninjaf

Depends on how the fundraising efforts go on that. No money for the coffers = no need to keep that chicken in his harem.

I’ve spoken with enough die-hard conservatives to know that there’s still plenty of money left in that chicken.

And, anyway, it will keep the focus off of Trump, so that’s a bonus.

It perpetuates and enhances the false narrative that Democrats are corrupt / untrustworthy whereas the Red Shirts are the party of law-and-order. (at least amongst their constituents in the Fox/Breitbart echo chamber).

And even if nothing else – even if there were no political value to it whatsoever – it harasses a hated (former) political opponent. They’d do it out of pure spite. (kind of the way one might close a bridge to punish a mayor).

There’s no real downside for them. Why would they stop? It’s not like they give a shit about spending tax dollars on political witch hunts.
