If we’re being real, I personally am more concerned about the threat posed by Republicans than any terrorist organization, and I believe everyone should be because men like Donald Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan actually do pose an existential threat to America as we know it today.

ISIS is not a threat to us. They are, at worst, a bee sting. Orlando, while terrible, is no great threat to our national well-being. Even 9/11, which caused 3,000 deaths and billions in damage was not a serious blow to us as a nation. What was a serious blow was our reaction to these things. Much like the aforementioned bee sting, the real threat isn’t the stinger, but the anaphylactic shock – the body’s own overreaction. The real damage of 9/11 was the Bush administration’s actions to take away civil liberties, weaponize fear as a political tool, and launching wars which cost dramatically more in (god, I hate this term) “blood and treasure.”

ISIS didn’t do that to us.

Al Queda didn’t do that to us.

We did it to ourselves.

Specifically, we allowed the Republican Party to hijack the national narrative and we, the liberals, cowed and meek, followed in step or offered only feeble resistance. We cannot forget the lessons we so painfully learned.

Has anyone else ever noticed that the diference between "Bircher" and "Birther" is exactly one lousy syllable? I can't imagine why that suddeny occured to me.
