In fairness to Navarro’s unfortunate coauthors and publishers, “Ron Vara” is, yes, an obvious anagram and Navarro is an anti-China crank, but he has real academic credentials, he’s taught at actual universities—not clown colleges like Trump University—and has published articles in peer-reviewed journals. No one would expect this sort of deception from someone with his background (fudging data is one thing, but out-and-out fraud like this is career suicide in academia).
