Poll: Overwhelming Majority of Americans Want Higher Taxes on the Rich

Trump is taking a trip to Pennsylvania today where he will lie his ass off a group of truckers by claiming the GOP's massive package of tax cuts for the rich will benefit them, but based on these poll results there's a good chance not everyone in the crowd will be pleased.

A new Reuters/Iposos poll found that 76 percent of Americans agree that we should raise taxes on the rich.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from Sept. 29 to Oct. 5 found that 53 percent of adults “strongly agree” that the wealthiest Americans should pay higher tax rates.

An additional 23 percent “somewhat agree” the wealthiest should pay higher tax rates, according to the poll of 1,504 people, which had a credibility interval, a measure of accuracy, of plus or minus 6 percentage points.

Even with a margin of error of 6 percent, 70 percent of Americans agreeing that we should raise taxes on the rich is significant. There aren't very many issues in America this many people can agree on.

Rather than tell truckers that his tax cuts for the rich will help them, Trump should start a frank discussion about a possible future in which there will be no more truckers because the trucks have been automated. Wall Street investors are actually betting that companies will use Trump's tax cuts to invest in automation.
