Public Option Polling

Nate Silver returns to the issue of polls and the public option. August has been a crappy month for the public option, partly due to the town hall lies and partly due to really crappy poll questions which succeeded in making the public option appear less popular.

Silver cites the following August poll from Quinnipiac as being the most solid wording of any of the recent public option questions:

Do you support or oppose giving people the option of being covered by a government health insurance plan that would compete with private plans?

When asked his very clear and self-explanatory question, support for the public option remained in the super-majority range with 62 percent in favor. So when you're debating the issue, this would be the most airtight poll to quote.
