One of my artistic heroes and one of the most iconic cinematic talents of our time passed away yesterday.
Ralph McQuarrie is responsible for some of the most memorable and striking film design work of the last 40 years. More here. The spectacularly smart and amalgamated visual style of Star Wars was due almost entirely to McQuarrie's artwork. Without it, I'm not sure Star Wars would have been as successful.
