Rand Paul: Bernie Sanders Might Take Away Your Pants and Implement Slavery

Written by SK Ashby

Rand Paul may be the least effective of all of the Bernie Sanders' critics.

Rand son of Ron spoke to students at the University of Minnesota where he warned them that Bernie Sanders might take away your shoes and pants even if he won't literally kill you.

Rand has understandably faced push-back for comparing Sanders to Joseph Stalin and Pol Pot. Rand acknowledges that he may have taken that comparison a little too far except not really at all.

“Government was instituted among men to protect your rights, not to create rights,” Paul said. “So you don’t have a right to a chair, you don’t have a right to shoes, you don’t have a right to pants, you don’t have a right to health care, you don’t have a right to water — you have a right to be free.” [...]

“Stalin killed tens of millions of people,” he continued. “They say, ‘Well, Bernie’s not gonna do that.’ Probably not.”

Probably not.

“You know, it doesn’t matter whether a majority takes your rights away, or whether one single authoritarian takes… So if a majoritarian, somebody who gets 51% — does anybody think slavery is less bad if a majority votes for it?” Paul asked. “So what if a democracy says: ‘We’re gonna have democratic slavery?’”

Rand's message to students appears to be that they should not rest on their laurels and accept socialism because a socialist leader could deprive them of things they take for granted such as healthcare and, yes, even your pants.

Rand went on to say that we are granted rights by our "creator" and implied that accepting socialism means giving Bernie Sanders the power to take away those God-given rights.

For Rand to say something so profoundly stupid I have to question whether he even understands the Constitution he claims to revere or even our system of government, for that matter.

No one is granted rights by their God or "creator." As Americans we are granted rights by the Constitution of the United States and Bernie Sanders, even if he were elected president in the scenario Rand Paul lays out, would not have the power to violate or destroy the Constitution.

It wouldn't matter if Democracy says 'we're gonna have democratic slavery,' whateverthefuck that means, because it would be unconstitutional. There have been many issue throughout the history of the United States that were ultimately settled by the Constitution, not the Democratic majority. Usually but not exclusively, that has been for the better.

Bernie Sanders is not a murderous authoritarian in waiting and, even if he were, nothing in the Constitution grants him these powers. God is not a factor.

The idea that God rather than the Constitution grants rights to Americans is Rand Paul at his most theocratic moment and, really, that says almost everything there is to say about fake libertarian Rand Paul. His entire philosophy is a series of contradictions.
