Report: FBI Suspects Trump Associates Coordinated With Russian Hackers

Written by SK Ashby

FBI Director James Comey confirmed that his agency is investigating possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives during his Senate testimony, and now we have a little more detail about the investigation.

Officials who spoke to CNN say the FBI is investigating close associates of Trump and they appear to have gathered an expansive range of evidence.

The FBI is now reviewing that information, which includes human intelligence, travel, business and phone records and accounts of in-person meetings, according to those U.S. officials. The information is raising the suspicions of FBI counterintelligence investigators that the coordination may have taken place, though officials cautioned that the information was not conclusive and that the investigation is ongoing. One law enforcement official said the information in hand suggests "people connected to the campaign were in contact and it appeared they were giving the thumbs up to release information when it was ready."

Close associates of Trump who we know have well-documented ties to Russia include his longtime henchman Roger Stone, his former campaign manager Paul Manafort, his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, his lawyer Michael Cohen, and his former adviser Carter Page. And I'm probably leaving someone out because that's how many people close to him have been implicated.

Trump himself may not ultimately go down for this, but his agenda might. We can already see signs that Trump has very little political capital in the tank because, if he weren't so unpopular, his efforts to coax congressmen into supporting Trumpcare would be more fruitful.
