Calling this op a “plan” is being generous. Actually, calling anything Trump cooks up a “plan” is extremely generous. His idea of a plan is to flip over the tables and wait to see how everyone reacts to it.

If Donald Trump''s plan hadn't been an obvious Charlie Foxtrot, that would have been noteworthy. The bottom line is that Trump has taken a nominally functional immigration enforcement system and rendered it completely dysfunctional. Rendering the functional dysfunctional is Trump's second superpower, right after his ability to cheat contractors. –alopecia

In reply to IrishGrrrl. Those "policy changes" include reducing foreign aid to Central American countries, "renegotiating" NAFTA, and tariffs on trade with Mexico. Decades of US intervention in the region, not to mention the US appetite for illicit drugs, has inevitably led to corruption and instability and violence. But why attempt to address root causes when you can just dehumanize victims fleeing for their lives and begging for asylum?

The MSM is reporting this story as if the border is being overrun and that’s why there is a crisis. When the truth is that the policy changes implemented by the Trumpov Administration are what is causing the problem. Immigration has been steadily decreasing. It’s the practice of “catching and holding” and “separate families” that have created this nightmare. And it’s purposeful –they are creating a crisis in the run up to a Presidential election and to use as a bargaining tool with Congress. And no one, not even NPR, will f*cking say so. Gah, this crap is driving me nuts.
