Republican Thuggery

University of Wisconsin History Professor William Cronon wrote an op/ed opposing Scott Walker's union-busting and attacks on collective bargaining. Then Cronon wrote a blog entry examining who's behind the effort. (Of course, I'm aware of Cronon because of his work on Ken Burns' phenomenal The National Parks documentary series. See below.)

And so the Wisconsin GOP filed a FOIA request to have all of Cronon's email records released to them. Total and complete thuggery against an educator -- someone who's not an elected official, who's not a politician or lawmaker or anyone making policy at any level of government.

Essentially, the Wisconsin GOP is requesting access to Cronon's personal emails. Most professors use their .edu address for personal correspondence as well. And the Republicans are demanding to read those emails -- ostensibly in an effort to smear and discredit Cronon.

It's the Nixon plumbers all over again, in plain view.
