In other news, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says the U.S. will exhaust its measures to avoid defaulting on our debt at some point in October unless the ceiling is raised.

Meanwhile, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has signed the state GOP's new voter suppression bill into law. The bill limits or bans voting methods that were used to drive turnout during the pandemic.

Finally, Britain's sewer systems are being told they can dump more untreated sewage into the nation's waterways because of the Brexit.

U.K. authorities have waived rules on the treatment of sewage due to a shortage of the required chemicals as supply chains are squeezed by Brexit. [...]

The Environment Agency published a regulatory waiver for companies to discharge effluent without meeting the usual conditions in their permits. If supplies are low, they must use the chemicals to treat the most polluting discharge. The waiver will remain in place until the end of the year.

The disruption to supplies of ferric sulphate is being caused by a shortage of lorry drivers to deliver the chemical, the industry body Water U.K. said.

This probably wasn't in the material used to sell the Brexit to the public.
