Yes, George W. Bush deserves credit for being politically coerced into initiating a major repair effort to fix his historically massive blunder.
Put another way, Bush authorized the surge and got lucky with the Awakening. But both were reactions to the fact that his decision to go to war was a blunder and his execution of the war was piss poor.
