MSNBC is carrying the Arlen Specter town hall in Lebanon, PA (about 25 miles from here). Every question so far has been some degree of crazy. I see lots of white hair and exclusively white skin. But that's Lebanon.
One woman insisted that Specter return America to the realms of the Constitution, and she went on to quote Glenn Beck's "you have awakened a sleeping giant." I don't know anything about a "giant" since these people are certainly in the 20-30 percentile, but they've surely been asleep if they don't remember the previous administration's crimes against the rule of law and the Constitution.
The overall level of misinformation is staggering. Questions about free abortions, questions about the government raiding our bank accounts, questions about socialism. To the latter, the only reason many of the older people at this meeting can attend is due to their socialized safety nets in the form of Medicare and Social Security. Without it, they'd either be working, infirmed or dead.
And finally, I wonder if these people realize they're shills for the health insurance industry.
Adding... A question from a guy who is worried about the administration "collecting email addresses" and described it as Maoist China. Where were these people when the Bushies were engaging in data mining and domestic eavesdropping? Sleeping, I suppose.
One more thing... Where are our people?
