Republican Party

Step Off, Republicans

The Sunday morning Republicans astonish me. The cable news Republicans, too. Four and eight years ago, the Buchanans and Gingriches wheeled out the same ridiculous lies about the Democratic candidates -- the socialism lies, the income redistribution lies, the most-liberal-so-and-so lies.

And what happened? We got the Republican president they supported as well as, in 2000, 2002 and 2004, Republican sweeps in Congress -- and what else? Oh yeah. An economic meltdown and a federal government that's practically too broke to adequately fix it. $10 trillion national debt. Possibly a $1 trillion budget deficit.

So what are they doing this year? Rather than seeing this craptastical disaster for what it is and owning up to the hideous errors in judgment during previous election cycles, they continue to piss out the same lies about the Democrats.

Today, it was Buchanan on McLaughlin and Gingrich on This Week. If they had any intellectual honesty -- even just basic humility -- they'd recognize the chaos their dishonesty has wrought and step off for the remainder of this campaign season.

And while I'm here, shame on the broadcast networks for hosting these misleading bastards during what ought to be serious (and federally mandated) public affairs programming. Way to serve the public interest, networks!
