Immigration

“That bill’s not going to pass”

Written by SK Ashby

This quote comes to us from the lips of Senator Marco Rubio so, you know, you can take it with a mound of salt, but I think he's right.

Rubio spoke to a local CBS affiliate in Florida and said Trump's plan for cutting legal immigration is dead on arrival. But, this is Marco Rubio we're talking about, so he also expressed support for the spirit of the legislation without actually endorsing it.

"That bill's not going to pass," Rubio said to CBS 4's Rick Folbaum. "I think the White House knows that you don't have 60 votes for that in the Senate." [...]

"It actually has elements of it that were part of the 2013 proposal," Rubio said, referring to his bipartisan immigration overhaul effort which failed after the House decided not to vote on it. "In 2013 the very controversial Gang of Eight, four Democrats and four Republicans, proposed moving legal immigration to a merit-based system."

As you know, Rubio came out against his own immigration bill because he wanted to run for president. Who knows what he really believes? Does he sincerely believe in anything?

In any case, he's right about one thing: there aren't 60 votes for this.

I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but it's looking increasingly likely that we'll make it through the first year of Trump without a single one of his major initiatives being signed into law.
