Super Stupid

The Art of the Fail

The good news is Trump is breaking another campaign promise and will not be moving our embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The stupid news is the White House is painting this as some kind of negotiation tactic.

"[N]o one should consider this step to be in any way a retreat from the President's strong support for Israel and for the United States-Israel alliance," a White House statement said. "President Trump made this decision to maximize the chances of successfully negotiating a deal between Israel and the Palestinians, fulfilling his solemn obligation to defend America's national security interests. But, as he has repeatedly stated his intention to move the embassy, the question is not if that move happens, but only when."

If this is a negotiation tactic, why give the game away?

I mean, if you say you're going to move it in any case, what incentive is there? Where's the leverage?

What's extra stupid about this is it's never going to happen. Because if moving the embassy is dependent on peace, it will never be moved. But, taking that as a given, the Trump regime insists it will be moved. It's a matter of when, not if, they say.

In other words, they've blown up a bargaining chip over something that isn't going to happen anyway. I would understand if both the Israelis and Palestinians felt like Trump is insulting their intelligence.

Is this the Art of the Deal?

  • Are you kidding? I use this tactic all the time whenever I get a new car.

I’ll offer you $10,000 for that car right now, but I’m definitely willing to pay $15,000 in five minutes.

    Works wonders!

After all the noise Donald Trump made during the campaign about moving the embassy, the White House had to say something about breaking that promise, even if that something is incoherent and, yes, stupid.

In the crappy, direct-to-home-video movie version of this story, the American administration would do something this eye-wateringly stupid, and the two sides of the conflict would discover they have something in common, after all: a blazing hatred of the American administration.

We’re living in a worse universe than the one in which Pauly Shore is President of the United States. That really sucks.

its all about reassuring his base that Trump isn’t really breaking his promise. They are stacking up lies to keep the Trumpists in the fold.

The true priorities of this ‘administration’ are pretty evident and surprise, surprise, they seem to align exactly with Vladimir Putin’s designs on Europe. I have always thought that a life boat with fascist thugs with fascist thug aims and one with the Israel lobby also aboard was simply not going to make it to shore. It will sink. The only question is when. These are national concerns with conflicting interests and the first thing trump did was burn an Israeli asset. That tells where the real leverage and power is. And it is in Russia.
