The Iran Nuclear Deal is Truly Dead

Written by SK Ashby

The Iran nuclear peace deal negotiated by the Obama administration had been hanging by a thread as Iranian and European leaders tried to reach an accord that would allow business between the blocs to continue by avoiding the Trump regime's sanctions, but the deal is truly dead now following Trump's recent actions.

Trump's decision to illegally assassinate Iran's highest ranking general has prompted the nation to completely abandon the sections of the 2015 nuclear deal they were still adhering to.

From Reuters:

Iran had been expected to announce its latest stance on the deal this weekend. But its announcement coincided with a major escalation of hostilities with Washington following the U.S. killing of top Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani in a drone strike on Friday in Baghdad.

State television said Iran would not respect any limits set down in the pact on the country’s nuclear work: whether the limit on its number of uranium enrichment centrifuges to its enrichment capacity, the level to which uranium could be enriched, the amount of stockpiled enriched uranium or Iran’s nuclear Research and Development activities.

And you know what -- who can blame them?

I can't. Trump committed an act of war by assassinating Soleimani and they can't be expected to abide by the terms of a deal that Trump wounded when he unilaterally withdrew from it and salted with his latest attack.

From a broader perspective, Trump's interactions with North Korea tell us he's more likely to reward you for pursuing a nuclear weapons program, not punish you. Iran and North Korea are obviously not the same, but Trump will have no allies for whatever he does next because he has so thoroughly discredited himself and the United States as hypocrites. We don't have a leg to stand on.

President Obama brought us within an inch of opening up trade and economic relations with Iran's 82 million inhabitants by making peace but the Trump regime has pushed us further apart than we've been in decades. And for what? Emotional whims? Political interests? Personal financial interests? A favor for his underwriters in Saudi Arabia? All of the above?
