The Finance Committee Debates Healthcare

Watch the debate here. If you dare.

While you're watching, read this item from Steve Benen. We could be looking at 60 votes again, given what's happening in Massachusetts. And Benen reminds us -- and the Senate -- that 60 votes are needed to break a Republican filibuster, not to pass the bill. Given that information, it's highly unlikely that any Democrat would vote with the Republicans to filibuster healthcare reform. Unless Joe Lieberman is a bigger jackass than we thought.

UPDATE 11:26AM: Senator Stabenow is seriously pushing the public option. She said that she wouldn't be as concerned about the subsidies if Americans had a true choice, which means a public insurance option. Hopefully this means she's a 'no vote' for a bill without the public option.

UPDATE 12:17PM: Recess. Time for Baucus to calibrate the metal rods in his eyebrows.
