The Hotel Generation

I believe it's easy for politicians in Washington, and inside state houses nationwide, to forget the very real consequences that the stroke of their pens may have. As soon as that ink hits the page, a series of events take place that put real people, and their families, in jeopardy. And when you're boasting about how many federal employees you're going to fire, or how many social programs you're going to cut, you need to remember that at the other end of that masturbatory adventure in proving your fiscal seriousness, there are other human beings who will be paying the price.

Perhaps the least considered demographic of all in the midst of reckless budget cutting are children. And why not? They're out of sight and out of mind. Most members of congress do not have little children, and if they do, they're probably living a pretty good life. If children end up suffering as a result of budget cuts, its their parents fault for not preparing, right?

60 Minutes presentsYou can bet that there are Republicans out there who see things like this and immediately start drafting legislation to repeal child labor laws.
