Wingnuts

The O'Keefe-Congressional Complex

So by now you're probably aware of James O'Keefe's latest "caught on tape" scam in which he tricked an NPR executive, Ron Schiller, into admitting the obvious fact that the tea party is driven by xenophobia and race, and its leaders employ race as a wedge (Southern Strategy politics!).

We've all seen the witchdoctor protest signs, the Mark Williams Tea Party Express remarks and all the rest of the racial dogwhistles to back up a claim like this.

FACT: The Southern Strategy is real. The Republicans use it all the time. This isn't a myth. This isn't a figment of our imagination. Former RNC chairman Michael Steele admitted to it, and even apologized for it. The Republicans exploit the racial biases, resentments and outright racism of white voters in order to win elections. Fact. Indisputable fact.

Nevertheless, Schiller is gone, and NPR CEO Vivian Schiller (no relation) resigned today.

All because of O'Keefe's scam. James O'Keefe! A man who's previous efforts were selectively edited and deliberately misleading.

But that hasn't kept the Republicans from, once again, using O'Keefe's work as an excuse to de-fund a program. It's a machine: O'Keefe gins up a dubious video and "Very Serious" Republicans like Eric Cantor and John Boehner endorse the effort by holding votes to de-fund O'Keefe's targeted group.

Here's Cantor yesterday:

"As we continue to identify ways to cut spending and save valuable resources, this disturbing video makes clear that taxpayer dollars should no longer be appropriated to NPR," Cantor said in a statement. "Not only have top public broadcasting executives finally admitted that they do not need taxpayer dollars to survive, it is also clear that without federal funds, public broadcasting stations self-admittedly would become eligible for more private dollars on top of the multi-million dollar donations these organizations already receive."

These are O'Keefe's videos he's vouching for! James O'Keefe! Andrew Breitbart, who backed the original ACORN videos, admitted they were scams and deliberate tricks aimed at duping the media. And Eric Cantor is buying into it all. Disgusting. Any member of the press who takes Cantor seriously ought to resign their posts.

First it was ACORN. O'Keefe videotaped some low-level people, then edited their remarks to make them appear unsavory. Congressional Republicans freaked out and ACORN was de-funded and forced to shut down. Then Brietbart admitted the videos were faked and selectively edited. Then the same thing happened to Planned Parenthood. O'Keefe and company release videotapes and the Republicans use them as an excuse to de-fund Planned Parenthood. And now, NPR and possibly PBS.

The Republicans, including the House Majority Leader Cantor, are inseparably married to the freakdogs and wingnuts. Liars and flim-flam artists are the new Nixon-style Plumbers of the modern Republican Party.

None of these ratfuckers should be taken seriously anymore.
