Dildenusa, thanks for that, and I should have written ‘in light of the PA convictions, why isn’t the DOJ investigating judges with high sentencing rates to privatized prisons?’ Dollars to donuts they’d find this same egregious corruption elsewhere.

Is he doing hard time in the kind of places he sentenced those kids to, or taking a break at a Club Fed for white-collar criminals, working on his serve in a taxpayer-funded tennis court? I’d bet the latter.

Bet he’s having a few sleepless nights now.

The real irony will be the fact that the irony of Ciavarella receiving a “harsher than expected” will never dawn on him.

So far in Arizona the hanky panky going on with private prisons is limited to politicians owning stock in private prison corporations or being a silent partner in a company that does contracting services to private prisons.

Al Flora, Ciavarella’s lawyer, called the sentence harsher than expected. The ex-judge surrendered immediately but it was not immediately known where he would serve his time. He plans to appeal both his conviction and sentence.

“Harsher than expected.” Irony may not be dead, but it’s coughing up blood.

Conahan pleaded guilty last year and awaits sentencing.
