Trump Picks Billionaire Vulture Capitalist for Commerce

Despot-elect Donald Trump continued to pump raw sewage into the Washington swamp last night by selecting billionaire vulture capitalist Wilbur Ross to serve as the next secretary of commerce.

You may recognize Ross because he's been a Trump crony for decades and a prominent donor to Trump's campaign.

Ross, 79, is a donor and longtime associate of Trump's, having helped him resurrect his casino company after it went bankrupt in the early 1990s.

Over the years, Ross has grown rich by buying troubled companies in industries such as steel, textiles, auto parts and coal and restructuring them, often with significant layoffs and budget cuts. He is said by Forbes to be worth $2.9 billion, making him the country's 232nd richest person.

Ross did help Trump "resurrect" his casino business but, as you know, that was far from his only bankruptcy. Actually, it wasn't even his first.

Various news reports have labeled Ross as a "turnaround specialist," but that's really just spin on vulture capitalism the likes of which cost Mitt Romney in 2012.

Trump is assembling the wealthiest cabinet in history.

    Thanks Obama!
    *snark snark*

Empowered by rubes, dupes and suckers.

    That is all.

  • 79 years old? He’ll last a long time. Sheesh.

I’ll bet most of Trump’s initial appointments won’t last two years. They’re too arrogant, inflexible and inexperienced. The federal agencies will have a hard time dealing with these nutjobs and that stress will make their “jobs” even more work and less fun than they think it will be.

Oh, yes. Just try to get in there and mess with the bureaucracy! MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

From your internet comment to God’s ears my friend.

Among the darker chapters in [Wilbur Ross’s] career was his involvement with the Sago Mine in West Virginia. Shortly after his company purchased the mine, an explosion there killed 12 miners.

Oh yeah, Ross is just the kind of person who should be a cabinet official. *eyeroll* (Also, “involvement with” the Sago Mine is remarkably anodyne phrasing.)

A former Democrat, Ross has been a loyal Trump supporter who shares his skepticism about trade agreements and said in a June interview with CNBC that the U.S. needs a “more radical, new approach to government.”

By all means, let’s go back to the good old days of trade wars. And I’m guessing his “more radical, new approach to government” involves giving lots and lots of cash to rich folks and cutting inconvenient regulations.

His second of three wives was former New York Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey, who authored several articles widely thought to have helped kill off Hillary Clinton’s attempt at health care reform in the 1990s.

Loons of a feather flock together.

Wilbur Ross should be kept away from the levers of power, by main force if needs be.

    • Have to wonder if Herr Cheetoh’s voters in WV are doing a double take…..

I wish I could say yes.

        • Yep, they’re probably still thinking he shits gold and that it will roll downhill to them. A new meaning to Trickle Down economics to be sure.

      • JMAshby

It could take 7 years for that to happen. 3 if we’re lucky

That’s what I’ve been thinking. A repeat of the dupes who defended the Bush Administration nearly to the end.
