Trump’s Clubs Are Hiring Again, If You’re From Another Country

Written by SK Ashby

This was suppose to be "Made in America" week, but the week began with an expose on Trump brand clothing lines being manufactured overseas and it will end with Trump's Mar-a-Lago and Jupiter clubs hiring more foreign workers.

According to Buzzfeed News, the Mar-a-Lago and Jupiter clubs are both asking for permission to hire more foreign workers because they can't find any Americans who want the job.

Mar-A-Lago, Donald Trump’s private club that he calls the Winter White House, is asking the government for permission to hire 70 temporary foreign workers as cooks, servers, and housekeepers, according to records posted by the Department of Labor on Thursday. The nearby Trump National Golf Club, Jupiter, has requested permission to hire an additional six foreign cooks. [...]

The new cooking jobs — which, by applying for H-2 approval, the clubs are saying it cannot find Americans to fill — would pay $13.34 per hour. The servers would be paid $11.88 per hour, and the housekeepers $10.33 per hour.

We have no way of knowing if either club actually attempted to find Americans willing to fill these positions, but I'm skeptical. It would be more plausible to say they could not find qualified Americans willing to fill these positions for such a low hourly wage at a club with a membership fee of $200,000. This is not a franchise steak house or the Best Western.

Having some personal experience with kitchen staff, I can also say you won't find very many conservatives or racists in your average restaurant who would be willing to work for Trump. The amount of immigrants we employ in America to cook our meals necessitates a certain level of tolerance and camaraderie required for the job. Two celebrity chefs pulled out of Trump's properties during the 2016 campaign because of his anti-immigrant rhetoric.

I would be remiss not to point out that ICE is rounding up scores of immigrants, many of whom were given legal permission to remain here by previous administrations, but they would never raid one of Trump's properties. I wonder what they would find if they did.
