Last night, Rachel Maddow presented a series of clips of various Republicans gretzing about the president's handling of the Libya situation. Newt complained that we're not taking a leadership role. Rick Santorum said that we're following France's lead. Har-har. And Lindsey Graham said the following:
Graham did offer some praise, saying “thank God for strong women in the Obama administration,” presumably referencing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice for their efforts. Graham stressed that since Gaddafi is an international criminal, our goal should be “isolate, strangle and replace this man.” Instead, he viewed Obama as having “caveated this way too much” and did not like America being in the backseat while the British and French have a more appropriate response.
Graham concluded, “we use to relish leading the free world and now it’s almost like leading the free world is an inconvenience.”
Haha. Get it? The women are stronger than the men, therefore the men are wimpy girly-men.
So there you go. Lindsey Graham. One of the self-proclaimed deficit hawks in the U.S. Senate. Earlier in the month, he pledged to vote for the House Republican spending cuts. Yet he wants America to be out front on Libya. But he hasn't said a damn thing about how we're going to pay for it. How about rolling back the Bush tax cuts for the top income brackets?
Tell us, Senator Graham, why are the Libyan people worthy of deficit spending and the American working and middle classes aren't? Tell us why we can increase the deficit to defend Libyans, but not our own people?
