Way Too Many Republicans Don’t Know the Difference Between ‘Deficit’ and ‘Debt’

It probably doesn't help that Romney consistently and repeatedly lies when he says, "The president doubled the deficit," but I've had to post the following information in the comments of my column yesterday:

2009 budget deficit - $1.4 trillion
2012 budget deficit - $1.089 trillion
Total deficit reduction so far - $311 billion
Projected deficit for 2013 - Around $900 billion
Total for all four years of Obama's first term - $500 billion

Why? Because various Republicans think I'm lying when I write about the president cutting the deficit. They either don't know or they're utterly delusional about it or they've confused the deficit and the debt, which are two different numbers. Frankly, I didn't even get into the fact that Bush era policies are driving the high deficit and debt.
