Benghazi

What is Dead May Never Die

Congressional Republicans recently launched a new investigation of the investigation of Hillary Clinton's email server, because Benghazi, and it looks like the Jeff Sessions Justice Department is getting in on the game.

According to The Daily Beast, the Justice Department is going to beat the dead horse at least one more time.

An ally of Attorney General Jeff Sessions who is familiar with the thinking at the Justice Department’s Washington headquarters described it as an effort to gather new details on how Clinton and her aides handled classified material. Officials’ questions include how much classified information was sent over Clinton’s server; who put that information into an unclassified environment, and how; and which investigators knew about these matters and when. The Sessions ally also said officials have questions about immunity agreements that Clinton aides may have made.

A former senior DOJ official familiar with department leadership’s thinking said officials there are acutely aware of demands from President Donald Trump that they look into Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state—and that they lock up her top aide, Huma Abedin.

The department is probably going to try to portray this as some kind of routine matter, but it clearly isn't. There's no reason to think this is happening for any reason other than Trump's endless blathering.

It's ironic to me that even if this investigation uncovered something the last dozen investigations didn't, Trump's numerous public accusations have virtually guaranteed there's no chance it would lead the successful prosecution of anyone. I feel like it would be incredibly difficult if not impossible to convince a jury or any judge that the investigation and prosecution was not politically motivated. The idea that is isn't politically motivate isn't even being entertained here.

I find it remarkable that Huma Abedin has not filed numerous lawsuits for libel. I'm sure she would just like to see this all go away, but I don't think it will until someone's legal nose is bloodied.

You can add this to the pile of things Democrats can and will investigate when they regain control of Congress.
