The more "safe" and "electable" Mitt Romney dropped another whopper on us yesterday, this time casually proclaiming that "a lot of us agree" with Rush Limbaugh.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had some kind words for the influential conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh on Thursday during an interview with Time‘s Mark Halperin.
During the interview, Romney was asked if he thought the often controversial radio host had too much influence on the Republican Party.
“You know, Rush Limbaugh has an audience that speaks a very important voice [sic],” Romney said. “I don’t begrudge him the great success he’s had and the influence he has. Sometimes he’s agreed with me; sometimes disagreed with me. And, so I can only look with him, at him and say, ‘Congratulations, well done. You’ve built quite a following.’” [...]
“It doesn’t mean that I agree with those voices but I’m certainly not going to suggest to the American people that they turn off their radio and not listen to someone who I may or may not agree with,” he added. “By in large, Rush Limbaugh speaks a number of conservative principles that a lot of us agree with.”

Did the planets align yesterday thereby amplifying The Stupid to immeasurable levels? You can't make this shit up.
What exactly has Rush Limbaugh brought to the table other than ching-chong voices, naked racism, gross misogyny, and a permanent devaluing of our political discourse? Limbaugh has "built quite a following" with all of these things, and the country is no better off because of it.
When we close-in on the next presidential election, and Rush Limbaugh inevitably dials the racial-fearmongering up to 11, I expect Romney to be reminded of his "a lot of us agree" with Rush Limbaugh statement.
Of course, since this interview was conducted by the very serious Mark Halperin, Romney was not challenged a number of issues, as Greg Sargeant points out.

This President has seen a reduction in jobs, 25 million people out of work or stop looking for work or in part-time jobs needing full-time employed. So, we’ll have that debate. ”
Romney made the claim that President Obama hasn't created any new jobs, but according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2.3 million private sector jobs have been created during President Obama's time in office so far. And the very hacky hack Halperin nods.
