In other news, a study conducted by researchers at the University of London found that a network of 13,000 Twitter bots help promote the Brexit campaign before last year's vote.

Meanwhile, at least 3.5 million Americans have lost health insurance coverage since Trump took office. The uninsured rate is currently at its highest point since 2014. Expect more of this.

Finally, a congressional source tells NBC News the deadly ambush that killed 4 special forces operators in Niger was the result of an "intelligence failure."

The aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak publicly, said the House and Senate armed services committees have questions about the scope of the U.S. mission in Niger, and whether the Pentagon is properly supporting the troops on the ground there.

There was no U.S. overhead surveillance of the mission, he said, and no American quick reaction force available to rescue the troops if things went wrong. If it wasn't for the arrival of French fighter jets, he said, things could have been much worse for the Americans.

Have a good weekend. I'm going to sleep until Monday.

If you’ve lost health insurance (since the election) and you voted for Trump – well, this is what you signed up for…

It should go without saying that if a country elects a man who believes in f***ing the middle class, the middle class will get f***ed. No matter how much of that middle class voted for him.

If Rachel Maddow’s opening segment regarding the loss of the 4 soldiers in Niger was accurate (and there’s no reason to assume it isn’t) it proves that every so called “ivory tower elitist” was 100% correct about electing Trump to the White House. His staggering incompetence has now proven deadly.
The basic gist is that the country of Chad withdrew it’s military forces from Niger in response to being placed on Trump’s idiotic, God damned travel ban list. Why? Because they weren’t able to provide the U.S. with a copy of their current passports within 50 days due to a shortage of the particular materials used to manufacture the passports. As Maddow succinctly put it, “they didn’t get the paperwork in on time.” This over the objection of the both the State Department and the Department of Defense. We may very well have lost four courageous uniformed men because the current administration couldn’t be bothered to properly staff the State Department or fucking listen to the people who are still serving there.

Profit doesn’t trickle down. Incompetence does.

    Some drive home music.

    • Actually a subject matter expert who knew where the troops were located on the ground eventually said that the Chad troops were very far away from our troops in Niger and would not have made a difference. I hope that Rachel makes a correction because the wingnuts will use it to defame her for the next 20 years and she doesn’t deserve it. So far her reporting has been stellar.

I agree. I noticed that after I posted the comment anf was disturbed by that too.

  • Here’s a twitter thread that explains the details of what happened in Niger…..it really needs to be investigated by Congress. I won’t hold my breath.
