Economy

Fuel for Wingnuttia

The unemployment rate ticked up to 9.8 percent and only 39,000 jobs were added in November, which obviously means stimulus spending doesn't stimulate the economy (even though it really does). It also means that tax cuts for Glenn Beck and Paris Hilton will totally solve everything.

At some point, the president will go on television and explain to the American people that the problem with the stimulus wasn't that it was too expensive -- the problem was that he and the Democrats didn't spend enough.

But hey, what better way to ameliorate this than by freezing pay for federal employees and letting the super-wealthy pay less in taxes than their servants and assistants. (Newt Gingirch and others pretend they're seriously going to be enduring a 39.6 percent tax rate when, in fact, they'll pay a significantly lower effective tax rate -- just like they always have.)
