How To: Get People Angry and In The Street

Posted by JM Ashby

Dear World Leaders: There is no quicker or easier way to end your citizen's media-induced stupor, make them angry. and flush them into the streets than to shut down their ISP and ban Facebook.

Algerian leadership is currently repeating the same mistakes made by the Mubarak regime.

Internet providers were shut down and Facebook accounts deleted across Algeria on Saturday as thousands of pro-democracy demonstrators were arrested in violent street demonstrations.

Plastic bullets and tear gas were used to try and disperse large crowds in major cities and towns, with 30,000 riot police taking to the streets in Algiers alone.

There were also reports of journalists being targeted by state-sponsored thugs to stop reports of the disturbances being broadcast to the outside world.

Little good that did, or else we wouldn't be reading about it.

The youth of Algeria and much of the rest of the world have nothing left to lose other than their internets and their Facebooks. They have no jobs and no future. I really wouldn't recommend shutting down one of the last remaining outlets of escapism that they have unless you want to guarantee revolution.
