Isn’t That True?

New reports are coming in from the battlefront where the war is being waged against the non-existent threat of Sharia law, and those cowering under the tyranny of Islamic justice have a new ally -- Texas State Rep. Leo Berman.

Representative Berman says he seeks to prevent the acceptance of Sharia Law "from ever happening in Texas" and he has sponsored a bill to ban state courts from "considering foreign religious or cultural laws" such as Sharia.

Cited as evidence for the need to pass Sharia-banning legislation, Mister Berman referred to a town in Michigan in which local judges are allowing the use of Sharia Law in their courts!

Berman insisted one U.S. city offered unquestionable proof of this supposed threat: Dearborn, MI. Dearborn is home to one of the largest Muslim populations and the largest mosque in North America. Therefore, according to Berman, Sharia law necessarily is being implemented there. “It’s being done in Dearborn, Mich., because of a large population of Middle Easterners,” Berman said, “and the judges in Dearborn are using and allowing to be used Sharia law.”

The problem for Leo Berman is that Dearborn, Michigan has no instances on record of Sharia Law being recognized or accepted as official legal doctrine. It's just another ginned up conspiracy theory spouted over the airwaves and consumed by the lowest common denominator.

So where did Rep. Leo Berman get the idea that Sharia Law was on the march? He heard it on the radio of course!

“I heard it on a radio station here on my way in to the Capitol one day,” Berman said Monday in an interview. “I don’t know Dearborn, Michigan but I heard it (Sharia is accepted law here) on the radio. Isn’t that true?“

I hope Mister Berman doesn't sponsor legislation every time he hears something spooky on conservative talk-radio. I mean -- just imagine if he listened to Glenn Beck. If he did he might think only hookers go to Planned Parenthood.

Given that Leo Berman is an elected official, I inevitably begin to wonder just how many people out there listen to conservative talk-radio every day and have absolutely no idea that they are being manipulated, mislead, and radicalized.
