There Are Other Great American Cyclists

SPOILER WARNING.

After two stages, Lance Armstrong is only 40 seconds behind the yellow jersey (worn by one of my favorite riders, Fabian Cancellara). Not too bad.

But with all of the press surrounding Armstrong, you'd never know American cyclist Tyler Farrar finished second in today's Stage 2. It's Farrar's first time riding the Tour de France.

As for Lance, unless something happens to his teammate Alberto Contador, I can't imagine that he'll be given the go-ahead to try for his eighth TdF victory. At this point, three teammates are ahead of him for the yellow jersey -- Contador (2nd), Kloden (4th), and Leipheimer (another American, 6th). To take over as team leader with all three outpacing him would require a spectacular event of some sort -- a crash or other twist of fate.
