Florida Lawmakers Target Porn, Ignore Guns

Although several survivors of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting were in attendance yesterday, the Florida House of Representatives killed legislation to bring back the ban on assault weapons

Republicans who control the legislature did tackle another pressing issue of our time, however, by voting to designate porn as a "public health risk."

The state's House of Representatives approved the resolution by a voice vote on Tuesday. The resolution states a need for education, research and policy changes to protect Floridians, especially teenagers, from pornography.

Republican Rep. Ross Spano says there is research that finds a connection between pornography use and mental and physical illnesses, forming and maintaining intimate relationships and deviant sexual behavior. Spano is also a candidate for attorney general.

If you vote for an attorney general who considers porn a bigger threat to public health than the proliferation of guns and assault rifles, you deserve what's coming to you.

The same goes for every elected office. Stop voting for these assholes. Vote for their opponents even if their opponents aren't ideologically pure enough. Someone who votes with you 90 percent of the time is better than someone who never does.

Stop voting for people who want you dead.

Let’s hope all these kids have the will and fortitude of raw steel, because this is just the beginning of the fight of their lives. And it’s only going to get even more nastier and vicious from the pro gun cult as it goes on.

The smear campaign against these kids has already begun.

This is pretty heartless. These kids just went through a terrible trauma. I was shaken just listening to some of the impromptu videos that were made during that shooting. The least those %%%$#%^^$#$#$$% can do is take the time and the trouble to at least act as if they care.

Yeah, that’s probably the same research anti-smut campaigners have referenced for thirty or forty years now, where ninety percent! of death-row inmates had encountered pornography at some point in their lives, or some such.

It’s remarkable how quickly Righties started leaning on the whatabout? button after the latest mass shooting. Whatabout porn? Whatabout violent movies/videogames/rap music (yes, they’re still on about that)? Whatabout the breakdown of the Murcan family? Whatabout the lack of prayer in school?

It’s all nonsense, of course, and at some level even the Ross Spanos of the world know it, but they must deflect attention away from firearms and the deep pockets of the NRA.

Stop voting for people who want you dead.

    Amen.

  • Stop voting for people who want you dead because they benefit from your death.

What they don’t seem to grasp in even the most miniscule way (among many things) is that in a few short years these kids will be voting…and they will remember.

The entire Republican is utterly divorced from reality and anything that could be considered basic decency.
