Report: Feds Intercepted Calls Between Flynn and Russia

As the kids say, shit just got real.

We already knew federal investigators were looking into Trump's staff's communications with the Russians, but now we have a little more detail about a recent case.

Trump's national security adviser and former intelligence director Michael Flynn was reportedly captured on an intercept speaking to a Russian diplomat back in December.

The calls were captured by routine US eavesdropping targeting the Russian diplomats, according to the intelligence and law enforcement officials. But the officials said some of the content of the conversation raised enough potential concerns that investigators are still looking into the discussions, amid a broader concern about Russian intelligence-gathering activities in the United States.

The calls were heard in the course of monitoring of communications of Russian diplomats, the officials said.

President Obama was still the sitting president in December and it's actually against the law for a private citizen (Flynn) to interfere with foreign policy. I'm skeptical that he will be charged, but if he is this will be the basis of it. Flynn being forced to resign at some point seems like a more plausible scenario to me.

Selecting Flynn to serve as national security adviser was a giant 'fuck you' to the entire intelligence community and they aren't going to let this go.

This should not be confused with a previous investigation federal authorities launched in April of last year examining a money trail that may lead from the Kremlin to the Trump campaign.

IIRC, Saint Ronnie called Nancy “Mommy”.

Yes, he did. The memory of that still makes me cringe.

Among the communications being scrutinized are calls between Russia’s ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, and Flynn on December 29. The calls came on the same day the US announced further sanctions against Russia and expelled a group of 35 Russian diplomats the US had accused of spying.

A Trump official told CNN on January 16th that Flynn and Kislyak did not discuss the Russian sanctions. On the same day, multiple Trump officials said the call focused on the logistics of connecting Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin after the inauguration for a phone conversation.

Well, okay, yes, maybe that’s the case, but even a lunatic like Michael Flynn should have understood the timing was always going to raise eyebrows at the very least. “Poor judgment” doesn’t even begin to describe this.

The intelligence community will be like a dog with a bone over this and—given Donald Trump’s badmouthing of the CIA—whatever they find will end up, in one form or another, in the public domain.

This is a squabble Trump probably can’t win.

Democrats and Never-Trump Republicans need to keep shouting about this and pursue it relentlessly. Don’t be nice.

    • Flynn is crazy like a fox. He didn’t get as high as he did in Military intelligence without being very, very clever. I think his mistake was twofold: 1) arrogance and/or 2) just didn’t give a f*ck any more what anyone thought or said. #2 has been the case for quite a while now. For example, he spoke out against the Obama Administration, pretty much giving the President an ultimatum and knowing he could be fired. The president called his bluff and then did just that. The arrogance comes with Herr Drumpf’s success. He’s thinking…if Herr Hair can get away with what he does, maybe now I can too.

And there’s Jill Stein in the picture–the same Jill Stein who insisted that Hillary Clinton was worse than Trump and that as President Hillary would launch a war against Russia. The same Jill Stein who was praised by Susan Sarandon who echoed her sentiments about Hillary.

Yep, there were actually two candidates with ties to Russia running in 2016. And some still refuse to see the truth.
