Report: McCabe Ordered an Investigation of Jeff Sessions

Written by SK Ashby

Here's a bombshell: ABC News has learned that former FBI deputy Andrew McCabe ordered a criminal investigation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions before he was fired by Sessions.

McCabe ordered the probe last year after it became clear that Sessions lied multiple times during interviews with Congress.

Nearly a year before Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired senior FBI official Andrew McCabe for what Sessions called a "lack of candor," McCabe oversaw a federal criminal investigation into whether Sessions lacked candor when testifying before Congress about contacts with Russian operatives, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News. [...]

One source told ABC News that Sessions was not aware of the investigation when he decided to fire McCabe last Friday less than 48 hours before McCabe, a former FBI deputy director, was due to retire from government and obtain a full pension, but an attorney representing Sessions declined to confirm that.

I think we can acknowledge that McCabe acted inappropriately during the 2016 election when he allowed his staff to speak to reporters about an investigation of the Clinton Foundation, but we can also acknowledge that there are bigger snakes in the pond who have done far worse things.

If Jeff Sessions did know about the probe, he should have recused himself from the decision to fire McCabe.

McCabe is preparing to challenge his early termination in court and it feels like he's going to win.
