Congress Returns for Important Business

Written by SK Ashby

House Republican leadership has indicated that they may take some sort of action against House Democrats who waged a sit-in protest back in June before Congress departed for a 7-week recess.

Congress returns to Washington today and punishment for Democrats who demanded a vote on several common sense gun safety measures is apparently near the top of the GOP's priorities.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) indicated to the New York Times on Tuesday that House Republicans may punish House Democrats in some way for their June sit-in over gun control.

Politico also reported last week that House leadership was considering punishing democrats for the sit-in, citing unnamed sources.

As you know, our Republican-controlled Congress has not passed a bill to fund the fight against the Zika virus. Congress has not passed any appropriations bills. Congress has not funded the federal government beyond the end of this month.

Congress has done nothing to tackle gun violence, or workplace discrimination, or dozens of other very important things that Republicans don't care about.

We're 24 days away from a possible government shutdown.
